The Ueda Vertical Race (Mt. Taroyama Climbing Race)



This exciting mountain race starts from Oboshi Shrine in Ueda-city and finishes at the highest peak of Mt. Taroyama.


Mt. Taroyama is the most popular mountain in Ueda and its surrounding vicinity from ancient times until now.


Mt. Taroyama is one of the historical places where traces of such things as forts are located from the Samurai era, 16th century.


The race course is set by these historical traces so racers can feel its history.

Starts at Oboshi Shrine, finishes at Top of Mt. Taroyama





(1) 3.3km, 700m elevation gain from start (Normal course)         

 Sanada Yukimura course (general Course) + 700 m / over 7 years old 

※Beginners can join


(2) 5km, 1,000m elevation gain from start (Skyrunner Japan Series course)


Sarutobi Sasuke course (elite course) + 1000 m / over 16 years old  

※ Participating qualifications fall under any of the following ① to ③

 ① JSA registrant

 ② Recommenders of JSA and overseas ISF affiliated organizations

 ③ Those who exceeded the following time in the past two years (2015 and 2016)

May 3rd 2017


7:30 ~ 9:00am Race Registration (racers must register at the registration desk)


Registration, Opening ceremony and Award ceremony will be held in front of the Ueda station in the event area.


8:20 ~ 8:45am Opening ceremony


9:30 ~ 11:00am   Race starts  


Race starts at Oboshi Shrine (1.7km, 15minute walk from registration area)


Individual start (Time trial style) Racers start every 10 seconds by racers’ number.


12:00 Race finish (Closing time)


13:30 ~15:00 Finisher certificate and race gift give-away (Ueda station event area)


14:00~14:30 Award ceremony





Traditional Wadaiko (Japanese drum) performance at start area and on the course.

Transportation from Tokyo


Hokuriku Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Ueda


1 hour and 30 minutes from Tokyo.


(Toward Nagao and Kanazawa)

Race registration is in front of Ueda station (Hokuriku Shinkansen/ bullet train)

Entry fee:

(1) 3.3km, 700m elevation gain from start (Normal course)         


    ¥4,500 adult / ¥2,500 (Under 18)


(2) 5km, 1,000m elevation gain from start (Skyrunner Japan Series course)

    ¥5,000 adult / ¥3,000 (Under 18)


 Entry starts from Feb.6 until April 10.
